Staring at the Bull
The Moon stares into the "eye" of Taurus, the bull, on the night of January 5. The eye is the bright orange star Aldebaran, which stands at one point of a V-shaped pattern of stars known as the Hyades. The other stars in the pattern are all related, but Aldebaran is only about half as far away from Earth. This view is about 90 minutes after sunset.
